What is Aromatherapy and Hydrosol?

Aromatherapy can be defined as the ancient art and science of blending naturally extracted essential oils from aromatic plants, to balance, harmonise and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy aims to enhance well-being, relieve stress and help in the rejuvenation and regeneration of the human body. It has been used throughout history in various forms of traditional medical practices throughout the world's greatest civilisations. Nowadays, Aromatherapy is widely accepted by orthodox and complementary practitioners as one of the most comprehensive of the natural therapies.

Hydrosol (or hydrolat or floral water) is a water-based liquid that carries the essential oil by distillation. This aromatic water contains the very essence of everything within the plant when it was still alive and growing.

During the distillation process, the flowers, leaves, fruits or roots of the plant are placed it in a distiller, heat it and extract the vapor. After passing through the herbs, the steam is condensed back into water-soluble parts of the plants.

While hydrosol is more supercharged with active principles than the essential oil from the plant. This ready-to-use product offers a safe and convenient way to deliver many therapeutic and cosmetic benefits.

Use of Hydrosol:

  • Skin care: moisturize the skin, regulate oil secretion, tighten pores, reduce skin inflammation, etc.
